AltForge is built around your own AI key and has no backend of its own. This policy explains exactly what happens to your data.
AltForge has no server, no account, no analytics, and no tracking. We (the developer) never receive your API key, your images, or any personal information.
When you click the icon, AltForge scans the current page once, locally, to list its images and read their alt attributes. This audit transmits nothing — it runs entirely in your browser.
Alt-text generation is optional and only happens when you click Generate on a specific image. At that point the extension sends the image's URL (and your own API key) directly from your browser to the AI provider you selected (OpenAI or Anthropic), which fetches the image and returns suggested alt text. That request is processed by the provider under their privacy policy:
We do not see, store, or route the image URL, the key, or the response. Generated alt text is shown to you as an editable draft and is never written back to the page automatically.
Your OpenAI/Anthropic key is stored only on your device using Chrome's storage API, and is sent only to the provider you chose, to authenticate your own requests. It is never transmitted to us or anyone else.
activeTab + scripting — run the one-shot local image audit on the tab you click, only at that moment.storage — local storage of your key, provider, and model choice.api.openai.com / api.anthropic.com — only to send your Generate requests to your chosen provider. No other site is accessed; no page-host permission is requested.Questions: [email protected]
